I wrote a little letter in response to the hearing on contraception going on in DC today where women weren’t allowed to speak or testify & religious leaders (mostly old white men) were. More info about that at this link. You can contact Issa at the link above.
Here’s my letter in case you’d like to use it to do the same:
First, I want to thank you for being the newest leader of the war against women. Your actions today at the oversight committee meeting have made it so much easier for me to pinpoint a single person to direct my disgust towards.
Second, I wanted to take a moment to educate you on this thing we have in America known as the Constitution. In it, there’s an amendment (the first one, in fact) which states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof”.
I wanted to bring this to your attention because it appears as though you’re unaware of the clause, and also because you seem to be doing the exact opposite of that by attempting to only allow MALE RELIGIOUS LEADERS to testify at your hearing today.
Aside from that, the fact that you would not allow women to say their piece only shows that you’re tone-deaf to women’s rights, women’s health & I pray that your mother is not alive to see the injustices that you’re responsible for because they’re setting a horrifying precedent and I’m sure that as a woman, she would be ashamed.
I will keep this short, to leave you more time to think about your pathetic actions & to have someone on your staff send me a meaningless canned response that I will not read, but I wanted to thank you again for reminding me that the only people more twisted & backward than the rest of us common people are politicians.
Sincerely,
women
In solidarity anytime I do anything that relates to medical advice, I will only take said advice from a local high schooler. That should be the equivalent of having a bunch of old white male virgins deciding about reproductive rights right?
